ANNA HOFFEE

I grew up immersed in art, fashion and skateboard culture. My parents, Diane and Michael Hoffee were creative small business owners. They owned several shops throughout my childhood. These included Monkey Business — a 1980s fashion boutique in Hermosa Beach; X-21 — a 1990s skateboard shop and vintage clothing exchange in Sacramento; and later in the early 2000s Gallery Clothing — a skateboard shop, clothing exchange and art gallery all in one. 

Both my parents started painting midlife. I helped my dad with the business side of art, setting up his website, writing bios for him and even creating sales invoices. During my time attending college at UC Santa Cruz, I would go to coffee shops with photos of Michael's art and got him set up with several solo shows. I loved attending his art shows and openings. Art became a language for my family to communicate with and a way to connect.

After my father’s death in 2021, I started painting regularly to process the grief and connect with his spirit. Art has transformed my heart and brought me back to who I truly am. My hope is to inspire you to express your creativity and follow your heart's guiltless dreams.

My Art

The art I create is channeled through me to express the timelessness of the human spirit. It represents all that is unseen, yet felt and known. My art is an energetic exchange with the viewer and the paintings are portals welcoming you to connect to something once long forgotten or suppressed.

I paint several different styles and mostly work with vibrant, bold colors in acrylic. My ancient abstracts are a language from the stars, light codes that I am able to translate into universal marks and symbols. I am also a seeress with the ability to connect with spirit animal messages. Using this gift and spiritual practice, I create shamanic mixed media art. These pieces are oracles and can be used to journey with, meditate upon or work with the energy and medicine of the spirit animal(s).

Other styles that fill my heart come from my upbringing and observations of my artist parents, Mike and Diane Hoffee. I love processing emotion on the canvas and layering in several influential styles like abstract expressionism, street art, outsider art, as well as a whimsical, naive and surreal style. Many of these pieces are directly inspired by my father's art and style. It is all very playful, childlike and full of wonder.

Thank you dad for always being so proud and supportive of me. You let me take the winding path that led to the most amazing gift of being able to create art and continue your legacy. I will forever miss you even though I know your spirit hangs out with me in the studio. Peace. Later.
